| I use one. It gives me more control over my flute and it is more comfortable. |

Christine... I'm happy to hear your comments. I invented them a number of years ago with the hope that they would help flute players of all levels and now they can be found on flutes in major symphonies as well as in elementary schools.
Cheers,

| I was told by a high profile flute shop that they are a waste of money, as they are not needed for a standard concert flute, and I agree! They tend to hinder rather than help! |

Hello All,
I am a professional flutist and I have been using the Bo Pep Finger rest and Thumb Guide since 1993 or 1994. Too many years ago to remember and I think that they are great! It is really a question of personal preferance. Some people like them, some people do not. It is just with the various makers of professional flutes. Some people play Haynes, Powell, etc... But I prefer Altus. You should never poo-poo something that may be of value or assistance to others! |

Hello Susan,
Just noticed your post. Haven't looked at this page in over a year. Feel free to email me at bolek@verizon.net. I haven't been involved in bopep, inc. since 1995, but I'm pleased to see that it has become an accepted aid. Believe me, it was one uphill battle when I first brought it out.
And thanks for your remarks John. It's absolutely true that they are not for everyone, but it warms me to see folks like yourself, Wally Kajala and Jeane Baxtressor using them. The NFA dysfunction committee saw their usefulness in combating carpal tunnel syndrome and median nerve damage early on and that helped promote the finger rests in the early days - around 1985. Introducing a new concept to the tactile "feel" of musical instruments is a daunting endeavor, because we all work so bloody hard to master the beasts we come to love.
My personal take on the finger rest is that, because it gives one a better grip on the flute and provides support and balance, less pressure is required against the lower lip and that improves the embouchure and opens the sound. I made the very first one for just that purpose in the sixties (out of pvc water pipe) and I decided to manufacture them after years of making them one by one for my flute playing friends.
Cheers,
Bolek |

Bolek,
I recently picked up the finger guide and thumb rest off E-bay and I love the finger guide. I am not to much of a fan of the thumb rest but to each his own. I think they are great products and quite elegant in their simplicity.
