For many years, the flutes played by professionals in the United States were primarily the flutes made in Boston, Massachusetts by Wm. S. Haynes and Verne Q. Powell. However, in recent years, many other makers in Boston, who got their training in either the Haynes or Powell factories, are making superb flutes in their own names. Like the Brannen brothers, Jonathon Landell, Burkhart and Phelan, and many others.
Any of those fine makers will make a flute, often to custom order, to give a flutist exactly what is desired !

i would not personally suggest yamaha or gemeinhardt... yamaha is good, but isnt near the best... they tend to hold back expression of playing.... gemeinhardt is jsut very thin... and the mechanics of it seem to be cheaper...
my suggestion would be...
student : armstrong
advanced: pearl
professional: brannen, haynes, burkart, or pearl |

| I have a beginning Gemeinhardt and a more proffesional Armstrong. I like them both equally. I find that the Armstrong is a little harder with the mouth placement but that is probably just because the Armstrong is a more professional flute. |

I have a Yamaha 211, and a I want to buy a new flute. But I play for a hobbie, I´m not a professional. But a I think I´m ready to change the flute.
I think to buy a new Yamaha, model 481. But I want to know about the other manufacturers.
Please give me a suggestion!

Do anybody know something about new Yamaha 221 flutes from China in Ebay only for 153 Us? Why are they so cheep and do they have any value?
